Online Learner Survey

Zoomerang One of our projects that have passed through IRB recently is an Online Learner survey. Have you attended or taught an online class before? Your assistance in providing your thoughts on your online experience would be greatly appreciately. You'd be participating in a worldwide study that will result in the development of online learner competencies. This is part of our work as a Directors of the International Board for Standards in Training, Performance, and Instruction (ibstpi)

Yes but.... its more than just the designation...

We believe in the abilities, capabilities, and potential for continuous learning of every individual... when we are asked about our Next Generation Organisational Certification Programmes, we find ourselves answering Yes but....its more than that to questions like "What designations do I get from the programmes?" "Is this training for CHRP? CPLP? FCHRP? CPT? CTT+? ibstpi?" or "Do you then get a certification at the end of the programme?"

Yes but....
Yes we do have the prep training programmes especially for CTT+ and ibstpi but its more than that. Our Next Generation Organisational Programmes go beyond competency exams or skills training for two main reasons (1) its for the organisation AND the individual and (2) because its developed by scholar-practitioners, it involves the idea of developing scholar-practitioners in your organisation.

We know there's much more discussion revolving this so why not join us at the upcoming March 1 CSTD event in Toronto and we'll have a chat about it.

The Machine is Us

From the Media Ecology and Cultural Anthropology Department of the University Kansas, a 4:31 minute visual representation/explanation of Web 2.0. Behind the Digital Ethnography series of videos is Prof Wesch , creator of this video.

Great video worth sharing especially to those wanting to understand what Web 2.0 and how it connects to previous understanding of the web's functions, features, capabilities, potentials. This video seems to posit questions like Is the machine the new learner?

Your thoughts?

Happy Happy... !

lunarnewyear07g.gif

Question for today? What animal are you? This has been going around for centuries. Horoscopes, Tarot Card Reading, Crystal Balls, Predictions, and Forecasts. Though valid in their own right, when incorporated to a business practice, it may turn off some people. If forecasting was likened to picking up a lunar chart and matching every employee's personality with their animal counterparts, does it align with asking everyone to take a Jung-like personality assessment and basing all relationships with that person on the results? Doesn't this remove unique and distinct personalities in the workplace? Do tell us.

Laughter, New Friends... and cake!

2006banner.gifNothing beats food as a familial bond to friendship building. Thus started our kick off dinner at the Nothern Voice conference. Met Saachi and Lee LeFever - whose slideshow on their year long travel around the globe was definitely engaging, Aidan, Will, Eric, Darren, and more. Talk of blogging, bonding, and immediate friendship was the natural order of the night's course. Food was sponsored by Peer 1 . And not one but two types of cakes was served! Lemon or Chocolate! Perfect for the weary day long traveler from the East.

Northern Voice's Moosecamp 2007

Robin reports from the Northern Voice's Moosecamp 2007 conference ~

Our Day 1 started with a new approach I've not experienced in a pre-conference session - an editable conference scheduling activity! Maybe not new for the regulars at Nothern Voice but since this was my first Moosecamp, it was a great idea. Topics were pitched and a blank grid was filled in minutes with hot topic sessions. Isn't this what we do when we teach? We need to be flexible and be able to pattern our classes to our current classroom's landscape so that its fluid enough to determine which works best. juggling.JPGThis constantly refitting, for most experienced stand-up speakers, is an unconscious activity so as to ensure viability, creativity, and vitality to the classroom.

Back to the conference in Vancouver - Roland Tanglao's session on cultural diaspora was very engaging especially since we're kababayans, I enjoyed Lee LeFever and Nancy White's community session, learned a lot about Mac widgets, plugins, nifty tools that I can't use since my XPs would cough 'em up, Tod Maffin's open forum with the new CBC website look [a CBC insider in the room whispered about Zed's reincarnation so I am looking forward to that], met and seen interesting people (dragons, interesting hat person, and jugglers included), enjoyed Vancouver weather and BC's very accommodating and lovely people.

Northern Voice 2007 Day 2 Session

bigideaAnil Dash kicked off our Day 2 Northern Voice 2007 conference. Two words - persistence and awareness - were his main message of developing relationships using online tools. I attended sessions by Nancy White, Kris Krug, Brian Lamb, and Stewart Mader. Discussions on use of edublogs, edu-wiki's, and overall edu-connections proved to be thought provoking and left me with questions on usage, continuous viability, and choices that I'd need to further process in the coming days.
